1. ## exponent

Hi,

I'm doing a home problem with dealing with Exponential and it Functions. I'm suppose to approximate each number by rounding 3 decimal places

2 ^3/4 is the problem. I came up with 1.681793 but it seemed to be wrong when I check in the back of my book. It came about to be 10.556, but with the answer I came up with am I suppose to move the decimal place foward or backwards to get the exact answer?

I'd be surprised if your book said that $\displaystyle 2^{\frac{3}{4}} = 10.556$. Your answer of 1.682 is correct.

1.682 is the right answer, so I don't know what your book is telling you. What do you mean by "moving the decimal place?"
