1. ## Simplification

What does $\displaystyle -2 = x \tan 45 ^\circ - \frac {9.8 \times x^2}{2 \times 14^2}$ give for the value of $\displaystyle x$? I did this but am not getting the correct value of $\displaystyle x$ so can someone show me the value of $\displaystyle x$ that you are obtaining?

There are two possible values for x...

You can simplify tan(45) into 1.

So it yields -784=392x-9.8x²

Edit : x=4.19 or x=-1.91

Ermm i did get -1.91 but got 41.9 for the other value

Edit : @ Air, to check ur answers u can simply replace the value of x u obtained back in the formula to check if it holds
