Nope. It is not a good way to round. For example, look at the number $\displaystyle 2.468$. If you round to nearest integer (ones place) , doing each digit one by one you get $\displaystyle 2.468\implies2.47\implies2.5\implies3$, whereas if you use only the tenths digit you get $\displaystyle 2.468\implies2$
