    most likely it is (3-1/x) / [(3x-1) / (x^2)]

    well if it is then:
    (3-1/x) / [(3x-1) / (x^2)]
    = (3-1/x)(x^2) / (3x-1)
    = x(3x-1) / (3x-1)
    = x

    \frac{3 - {\frac1{x}}}{\frac{3x-1}{x^2}} = \frac{\frac{3x-1}{x}}{\frac{3x-1}{x^2}} =\frac{\frac1{x}}{\frac1{x^2}} = x

    This is what I would call, a nested \frac practice

    \frac{3-\dfrac{1}{x}}{\dfrac{3x-1}{x^2}}
    Multiply top and bottom by the LCD, x^2

    . . \frac{x^2\left(3 - \dfrac{1}{x}\right)}{x^2\left(\dfrac{3x-1}{x^2}\right)} \;=\;\frac{3x^2 - x}{3x-1} \;=\;\frac{x(3x-1)}{3x-1} \;=\;x
