Since denominators are equal, we can just add the numerator:

$\frac {3}{2y} + \frac {5}{2y}$

$\frac {(3 + 5)}{2y}$ <---- Add numerators

$\frac {8}{2y}$

$\frac {8}{2}$ reduces down to $\frac {4}{1}$

so we have:

$\frac {4}{y}$

4. thank you
