What do you know how to do? What have you tried?

Synthetic division seems the easiest way to do this problem, unless you don't know what synthetic division is. Do synthetic division by 1, giving the following values on the bottom row (the quotient):

1 3 3-p 4-p.

4-p is the remainder, so that has to be 5, so p = -1.
