How would I work out 6% of 131?
6% is simply 6/100
Multiply 6/100 by 131/1.
You get 786/100. Now, reduce and you have your answer.
I got 0.0786
Is this right?
You're off by a couple of decimal points.
You should get 7.86.
How did you get that?
I'm awful at percentages!
Look:
6/100 * 131/1.
Multiply the top 131 * 6 = 786
Multiply the bottom 100 * 1 = 100
Now you have 786/100
How many times does 100 go into 786? 7
100 * 7 = 700
786 - 700 = 86.
Therefore 86 is what goes behind the decimal point.

Is it .30% or 30% ?
One will be 30/10000, the other will be 30/100
X% of Y is always X*Y/100
This means here that it's 68*30%=68*30/100=20.40$
