Thread: Solving Systems of Equations

im having a hard time solving this following equation... any help is appreiated.. thanks


3X + 5Y = 1
2X - 3Y = 7

There a two possible ways of solving these equations:

1. Rearrangement then substitution

2. Adding the equations (the easier)

3X + 5Y = 1 x 3
2X - 3Y = 7 x 5

9X + 15Y = 3
10X - 15Y = 35

9X + 15Y + 10X - 15Y = 38
19X = 38
X = 2

2(2) - 3Y = 7
4 - 3Y = 7
4 - 7 = 3Y
-3 = 3Y
-1 = Y
