Personally, I would have done this in a more basic way:
6z - 2(z+4)=3(9-z)
6z- 2z- 8= 27- 3z
4z- 8= 27- 3z
Add 8+ 3z to both sides:
4z+ 3z= 27+ 8
7z= 35
z= 35/7= 5.
Check: if z= 5, 6z - 2(z+4)= 6(5)- 2(9)= 30- 18= 12 and 3(9- z)= 3(9- 5)= 3(4)= 12. Yes, those are equal.
