    Question husband deployed and my daughter needs help with algebra 2

    Tell Whether the data in the table show a direct variation. If so, write an equation relating x and y.

    x -3 -1 1 3 5
    y -2 -2/3 2/3 2 10/3

    coordinates direct variation have a linear relationship when plotted on a Cartesian grid ... if graphing is not possible, then any pair of coordinates $(x_1,y_1)$ and $(x_2,y_2)$ will have the same rate of change $\dfrac{\Delta y}{\Delta x} = \dfrac{y_2-y_1}{x_2-x_1}$
