    Post algebra 1 help

I was doing my summer math homework and need help on one question
"Alex gets a new job as a salesman. He earns a monthly base salary of 5000 dollars plus a commission of 5.25 percent on all sales. What must Alex's total sales be in order for him to make $8,000 for the month?"

    $5000 + 0.0525S = 8000$

solve for $S$, the amount of sales he makes

He gets "a monthly base salary of $5000" so to total $8000 he only needs to earn $8000- 5000= $3000 from commissions. His commission is "5.25% of all sales" so, setting "S" as "all sales", he must have 0.0525 S= 3000.

(I presume you know that, since "per cent" means "per hundred", 5.25% is 5.25/100= 0.0525.)
