42 min = 7/10 hr

let $t$ = normal amount of time in hrs to not be late

$d$ = distance in km between towns

$d = 56\left(t+\dfrac{9}{20}\right)$

$d = 54\left(t+\dfrac{7}{10}\right)$

solve the system of equations for $t$, then determine $d$
