Book search - algebra and basic maths

    Hi

As some of you will know I am coming back to maths after a long hiatus. I was hoping that in my down time from work and uni I could take some time to brush up on my algebra skills. Does anyone have any good texts they would recommend or a workbook type book. I could go down the path of acquiring text books from each school year however I think I can work at a faster pace than going through each text for each year ie would be a very costly way of going about it.

I am looking at algebra basics, trig basics, log functions etc.

    Any suggestions values.

    Kind regards
    Beetle

    Hey Beetle37.

There is a book that I've heard others talk about for people in your situation called Basic Mathematics.

    https://www.amazon.com/Basic-Mathema.../dp/0387967877

I'd take a look at the reviews and if you can review it yourself before buying then it could be of great use to you.

    Thanks Chiro,

I had a quick look and it seems like in the ballpark of what I need. However, I have seen Plato comment that Lang is somewhat of a hard task master in his explanations. Do you think this is the case - I have no experience with mathematical academics past my lecturers! I am not scared of hard work and being a hard task to get through the theory per se, rather just don't want to get something too abstract (that means I have to post a million time on here to understand).

    Kind regards

@Beetle37, I hope that you were not put off by my comment on Serge Lang. It way an observation that Lange taught at one of the best Universities in the world and writes at a very high level. But his was always excellent.

Here is a book of equal quality and more self-contained.
