dividing a surd help

Hello, how would i go about dividing 6+ $\sqrt40$ divided by 2?. The answer in the book is 3+ $\sqrt10$ but i don't see how to get that. Can somebody please help?

Try writing $\frac{6 + \sqrt{40}}{2}$ as $\frac{6 + \sqrt{4}\sqrt{10}}{2}$

$\frac{6+\sqrt40}{2} = \frac{6+\sqrt{4 .\ 10}}{2} = \frac62 + \frac{2\sqrt{10}}{2} = 3 + \sqrt{10}$
