I guess that you mean:
$\displaystyle \frac{1 + \frac4y - \frac5{y^2}}{\frac1y + \frac5{y^2}}$ . If so:
$\displaystyle \frac{\left(1 + \frac4y - \frac5{y^2}\right) \cdot y^2}{\left(\frac1y + \frac5{y^2}\right) \cdot y^2} = \frac{y^2+4y-5}{y+5}= \frac{(y-1)(y+5)}{y+5} = y - 1\ ,~ y \neq -5$
