    they seemed simple enough.....

and turned out to be tougher than I thought....

Here I was asked to divide and simplify

    1+4/y-5/y^2
    1/y+5/y^2

in this problem should the LCD/LCM of the numerator have been y^3 as well as the denominator or y^2!?

    THANKS.....

    Hello,

    I guess that you mean:

    \frac{1 + \frac4y - \frac5{y^2}}{\frac1y + \frac5{y^2}} . If so:

    \frac{\left(1 + \frac4y - \frac5{y^2}\right) \cdot y^2}{\left(\frac1y + \frac5{y^2}\right) \cdot y^2} = \frac{y^2+4y-5}{y+5}= \frac{(y-1)(y+5)}{y+5} = y - 1\ ,~ y \neq -5
