Maybe this will help: Factor the numerator and denominators, then cancel out any common terms.

Your denominator doesn't have a factor of (x-2) in it, though. Are you sure you're reading the problem correctly?

x-2 numerator
x to the 2nd power +6x+8 denominator

Fair enough.
