Maybe this will help: Factor the numerator and denominators, then cancel out any common terms.

Fair enough.

$\displaystyle \frac{x-2}{x^2+6x+8} = \frac{x-2}{(x+4)(x+2)}$.

This problem won't reduce, because there are no factors in common.
