$\left( {1,5} \right) \\ \rightarrow 1
$\left[ {1,5} \right) \\ \rightarrow 1 \le x<5$
$\left( {1,5} \right] \\ \rightarrow 1
$\left[ {1,5} \right] \\ \rightarrow 1 \le x \le 5$

Roughly speaking "(" or ")" means "does not include" and "[" or "]" means "includes."
