I presume that most of these integers are exponents? Try writing them this way: a^2 ( ? ) = a^8 That would be much clearer. Solve these problems by division. For example: $\displaystyle a^2 x = a^8 \implies x = \frac{a^8}{a^2} = a^{8 - 2} = a^6$ etc. -Dan
