    Ratios mean if A gets 5, then B gets 2, C gets 4, D gets 3. It is not necessary that A should get 5. If A gets 5 times x then B will get 2 times x(where x can be any number). Can you understand the concept behind it?

    Hello, burgess!

    A sum of money is to be distributed among A, B, C, D in the proportion of 5 : 2 : 4 : 3.
    If C gets $1000 more than D, what is the share of A?

    We are given: . \begin{array}{cccc} A&B&C&D \\ \hline 5a&2a&4a&3a\end{array}

    We are told that: . C \:=\: D + 1000 \quad\Rightarrow\quad 4a \:=\:3a+1000

    Can you finish?
