Math Help - Matricies Help

1. Matricies Help

I just started learning about Matrices as part of of self study unit.
Did I do a) and b) correctly? and can someone help me with c) I do not understand what to do, is Bart represented by b, Casey by c ??? what subscripts do I use to represent the matrix described?

2. Re: Matricies Help

a and b are correct

In this matrix the intersection of person A and person B the value is 1 if they share a class, 0 otherwise. The matrix is nothing but 1's and 0's.

Just represent it as they've shown
Amy = 1
Bart = 2
Casey = 3
Djamshid = 4

so element (2,3) represents whether Bart and Casey share a class.

3. Re: Matricies Help

so for the element (2,3) I am going t refer to it as: a23 (that's how I read online to name elements) but where would the 1 or the 0 go to indicate that the students are in the same class??

$a_{23}=1$ or $a_{23}=0$ works. Or you could just draw a matrix and fill it out. They've already drawn it for you on that sheet. Just put the 1's and 0's where they belong.

5. Re: Matricies Help

Oh I get it, I thought I had to write the element position in the matrix >.<
