    Bucket Problem

    Dear All,

    would be great if I could get help with the following. It's a logic problem that has me stumped... > I have 3 buckets
    An empty 8ltr bucket, an empty 6ltr bucket and a full 20ltr bucket of water. I wish to divide the 20ltrs of water into 10ltrs. How to do this using the empty 8ltr and 6ltr buckets?

    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Bob

    let the A=20 ltr bucket, B=8, C=6

    $\begin{array}{lllr}
    &A &B &C &action \\
    &20 &0 &0 &A\to B \\
    &12 &8 &0 &B \to C \\
    &12 &2 &6 &C \to A \\
    &18 &2 &0 &B \to C \\
    &18 &0 &2 &A \to B \\
    &10 &8 &2 &Done
    \end{array}$

    I don't understand all the steps. Why can't you take the 20ltr bucket and pour 8ltr into 8ltr bucket and 2ltr into 2ltr bucket, leaving 10ltr?

    This is a classic problem. Although not stated here, the containers are not marked off. That is there would be no way to pour 2lt from a non-full container unless pouring into a 2lt container.

    A two-liter bucket is not given.

    But you are pouring into a 2ltr container.
