    Simultaneous Literal Equation

    3(x - a) - 2(y + a) = 5 - 4a
    2(x + a) + 3(y - a) = 4a - 1

    I know how to solve simultaneous literal equations, but I can't quite figure out how to start this one off. I've tried a couple of methods, both of which are too embarrassing and incorrect to be worth mentioning here. If you could point me off in the right direction, that would be great.

    Thanks in advance.

    literal --> linear, simultaneous linear equations

    I'm not seeing anything super sneaky so just expand everything and collect it all back in terms of x and y.
    Then solve it the way you've been doing.

    for example

    3(x - a) - 2(y + a) = 5 - 4a ---> 3x - 2y = 5+a

    You're final answer is going to include a in it. It's just a constant you don't happen to know the value of.
