How to use calculus functions on calculator

I've got a KAISER DS-742AQ in my hand and it has an integral and differentiate button. I've tried differentiating constants and it returns "SYNTAX ERROR" instead of 0. I've tried differentiating x^2 (there's an X button) but it always returns a syntax error...How do I use these functions?
