    fraction with unknown

    I need help with this problem.
    If (4/5)x - 19 =13, then what is the value of (3/8)x+4?
    Thank you very much,

    begin by multiplying through by 5. you will get:

    4x - 95 = 65

    now try to get x on one side of the equal sign by itself. can you continue?

    Well, one way to do it is to simply solve the equation for x:
    \frac{4}{5}x - 19 = 13

    \frac{4}{5}x = 32

    x = \frac{5}{4} \cdot 32 = 40

    Now plug this value of x into \frac{3}{8}x + 4

    (There's probably a fancier way to do this, but this method always works.)
