2. Re: Quick question about rounding to the nearest integer

It is very simple. just look at the digit to the right of the digit at which you want to round off. if the digit is 5 or greater than five then you have the next digit or else leave it as it is .
In this case 1345/99 = 13.58585858585858
Since we want integer the digit just to the right is 5 so we have the nearest integer as 14.

3. Re: Quick question about rounding to the nearest integer

So you rounded it 2 times? First you rounded the 4 since the number to its right is 5. Then you rounded 3 since the number to its right is 5. Am I right?

4. Re: Quick question about rounding to the nearest integer

Firstly we cannot round off a fraction we have to first convert it to a dedimal number and then round off. No we don't round off twice. In this case we are supposed to grounding off to unit place. The digit to the immediate right of unit digit is 5 and so the digit at units place is incremented by 1. OK.

5. Re: Quick question about rounding to the nearest integer

How would you do this without a calculator?

Ah, I was wondering if that wasn't really your question! 99 is almost 100. 1345 divided by 100 (just move the decimal point over is 13.45 which we would round down to 13 but since we are really dividing by 99 which is a little less than 100, the fraction will be a little larger- the next integer is 14.
