# Thread: The final problem..

1. ## The final problem..

Ok, i dont know if its because ive been up all night working on homework of various classes and am just missing something, or if im completely off..but i cannot get this problem. its due tomorrow, and its the only one i have left..
-(8n-2) = 3+10(1-3n)
i add the 3 and 10..
-(8n-2)=13(1-3n)
then distribute on both sides...
-8n+2=13-39n
add 8n to each side
2=13-47n
subtract 13 from each side
-11=47n
and then divide 47 from each side, which ends with
.23404255319148936170212765957447=n

...somehow i doubt this is correct. did i mess up somewhere? thanks in advance

2. Hello, Nightfire!

$-(8n-2) \:= \:3+10(1-3n)$

i add the 3 and 10..
. . $-(8n-2) \:=\:13(1-3n)$ . . . . wrong!

Distribute on both sides: . $-8n +2 \:=\:3 + 10 - 30n$

Now finish the problem . . .

3. ## last problem

-8n+2 = 3 + 10 - 30n
-8n + 2 = 13 - 30n
22n = 11
n = 11/22
n = 1/2
I think this is correct

4. ok, i got it now. thanks..now im off to bed. i missed a day of school to a 48hour virus and another to a field trip, so i had a ton of homework..and now its done. good night!

5. This is off topic, but every time I see a post with this name I want to dig out my Sherlock Holmes collection. (That particular short story is the one where Holmes confronts Moriarty.)
