how to show fractions with rectangles etc...
. Model the following, showing any necessary calculations.
a) 2/5 x 2/3 (using a rectangular array)
b) 2 ¼ = 9/4 (using circles)
c) 1 ¾ + 1 2/3 (using a number line subdivided according to the LCD)
d) 6/10 = 3/5 (using rectangles)
e) 0.3 = 0.30 (using decimal squares

[QUOTE=maddiexoxo;775257]. Model the following, showing any necessary calculations.
a) 2/5 x 2/3 (using a rectangular array)[quote]
Draw a 5 by 3 array of dots. That will give a total of 15 dots. Draw a vertical line after the second dot horizontally. Draw a horizontal line below the dot vertically. Now count the number of objects inside small rectangle formed by those two lines. The product is that number divided by 15.

Quote:

b) 2 ¼ = 9/4 (using circles)
Draw six circles, three on the left, three on the right. On the left color in two of the circles and 1/4 of the third circle. On right, divide all three circles into quarters and color 9 of those quarters.

c) 1 ¾ + 1 2/3 (using a number line subdivided according to the LCD)
What is the LCD for this problem?

d) 6/10 = 3/5 (using rectangles)
e) 0.3 = 0.30 (using decimal squares
