Basic Arithmetic, Basic Algebra, Basic Equations
This equation I have completely forgotten what to do! Please include the method when you solve it. -2 is less than or equal to 3x+1/4 is less than or equal to 11. Thanks heaps :)

Re: Basic Arithmetic, Basic Algebra, Basic Equations
$-2 \leq \frac{3x+1}{4}\leq 11$

What did you try to do?

Alice

revise a little bit the chapter of equations and inequalities...
in this case you have to solve two inequalities

-2less or equal(3x+1)/4 and (3x+1)/4 less thar equal to 11

in both cases apply cross multiplication to get rid off the denominator...
try it is is easy

Re: Basic Arithmetic, Basic Algebra, Basic Equations
Its not homework I'm studying for an exam and this work wasn't included in the textbook as I was overseas for 2 weeks and my teacher can't stay back to explain and during class he is busy teaching new content so I need to learn this stuff again but have no one to teach me so....

Re: Basic Arithmetic, Basic Algebra, Basic Equations
You still didn't say what you tried to do.

$-2 \leq \frac{3x+1}{4}\leq 11 \Leftrightarrow$

$\Leftrightarrow -2\cdot 4 \leq 3x+1\leq 11\cdot 4 \Leftrightarrow -8 \leq 3x+1\leq 44$

$\Leftrightarrow -8-1 \leq 3x \leq 44-1 \Leftrightarrow -9 \leq 3x \leq 43 \Leftrightarrow -3 \leq x \leq \frac{43}{3}$
