Add the equations:

. . $(a + b)+(b+c)+(c+d)+(d+e)+(e+a) \;=\;10 - 7 + 3 + 11 + 1$

. . $2a + 2b + 2c + 2d + 2e \;=\;18$

. . . . . . $a+b+c+d+e \;=\;9$
