which step is wrong
sqrt(-1/1)=sqrt(1/-1)
sqrt(-1)*sqrt(-1)=sqrt(1)*sqrt(1)
i*i=1
i2=1
but as per definition i2 = -1.

please tell me which step is wrong.

The very first. $\sqrt{\frac{-1}{1}}$ does not exist.
