    Re: stuck on this question..

Could the question be miss-worded? The original statement mentions 3 types of muffins that he purchased; chocolate chip, oatmeal and cranberry. It does not state there are any blueberry. Unless the purpose of the question is to say that blueberry = 0, and therefore he did not purchase any chocolate chip muffins which means the statement is false. Because it says he purchased some of each kind.

    Re: stuck on this question..

I presume that you have typed cranberry for blackberry i proceed further. There is some more typing error for the answer will come in fractions.
As per details given if we assume that Charles buys
x - Blackberry muffins then he buys 3x of chocolate muffins.
Since he buys a total fo 10 muffins so he will have ( 10 - 4x ) of oatmeal muffins.
    Now we can have the equation 65*3x + 70 * (10-4x) + 75 *x= 685
I am sure now you can solve it.

Where did you see blackberry muffins?

There are 4 types of muffins listed in the original question. Yet the question states the bakery only sells three.

As mentioned i presumed that typing cranberry could be typing error. I too made a mistake of typing blackberry for blueberry.

I think we should open a muffin shop. We'd have a better selection than the shop listed in the question! ha ha ha

Well, only one answer to this silly problem:
    Brand A: 6 @ .65 = 3.90
    Brand B: 1 @ .70 = 0.70
    Brand C: 3 @ .75 = 2.25
