# Math Help - Need help solving this problem with fractions

1. ## Need help solving this problem with fractions

Can someone help me and give me a step by step to solve the following?

147/20/2-x = 147/10

So 147 over 20 over 2-x equals 147 over 10.

Please correct me if I'm wrong. It sounds like your equation is
$\frac{147/20}{2 - x} = \frac{147}{10}$

If that's correct first note that you can cancel out the 147 from both sides. That leaves you with
$\frac{1}{20(2 - x)} = \frac{1}{10}$

Flip this equation upside down and solve for x

3. ## Re: Need help solving this problem with fractions

147/20/2-x = 147/10

147/20 ÷ (2-x) = 147/10
147/20 × 1/(2-x) = 147/10
147/20(2-x) = 147/10 divide by 147 to both sides
1/20(2-x) = 1/10
20(2-x) = 10 ---------- divide by 10
2(2-x) = 1
4 – 2x = 1
2x = 3
x = 3/2
