Thread: How do i solve this easy equation?

I have no idea why this is going wrong:

0 = -3^2 - 4*2*x
3^2 = -4*2*x
9 = -4*2*x
9 / (-4*2) = x

x = -1.125

it should be 1.125 :S not negative

no i didn't... try to put -1.125 at the x position, and its wrong

I think the issue is that it is (-3)^2. This makes 9. So instead of adding 3^2 to both sides in your first algebraic step, you should subtract 9. This will alleviate the negative issue.

Maybe, but it says -3^2 and that is -9.
