# Math Help - Need help solving for x in fairly simple equation

1. ## Need help solving for x in fairly simple equation

I know what the value for "x" is in the following equation but I can't remember the steps for solving (which I'm sure are embarrassingly simple):

12,847,080 = 1418 * 4 * [x + (x * .0461894)]

Any help is appreciated...thank you!

2. ## Re: Need help solving for x in fairly simple equation

I would first divide through by $4\cdot1418$ to get:

$2265=x+0.0461894x=1.0461894x$

Now divide through by 1.0461894 to get:

$x\approx2165$

I suspect you have changed the original equation and used a decimal approximation for a fraction. Did you replace 20/433 with 0.0461894?

3. ## Re: Need help solving for x in fairly simple equation

12,847,080 = 1418 * 4 * [x + (x * .0461894)]

divide both side by 1418*4 , you end up with
2 265=[x + (x * .0461894)]

calculate X+(X*0.46...)=1.46...

you end up with

2 265=x*1.46...
Divide both side by 1.046..
you end up with x=2369 ish!

and keep in mind that there are no simple problem.

4. ## Re: Need help solving for x in fairly simple equation

Yes, I changed the fraction to a decimal. I could feel the solution teasing the edge of my brain but couldn't grab it. Thank you!!
