If by simplify you mean solve for x then

$\displaystyle \left ( x-a \right )^{2}=b$

Take the square root of both sides $\displaystyle x-a=\sqrt{b}$

Add a to both sides to give $\displaystyle x=\pm \sqrt{b}+a$ - Nov 21st 2012, 11:35 PMgrillageRe: Need help simplifying this equation...
Which is close to your answer if you write it this way

$\displaystyle x=a\pm \sqrt{b}$ - Nov 22nd 2012, 02:49 PMkermolaRe: Need help simplifying this equation...
Thanks!
