Ok, I have $\displaystyle 8=\frac{16}{X}$. I know what the answer is, but I want to know what operation to perform in order to make the equation $\displaystyle \frac{16}{8}=X$

Start by multiplying both sides by X. This leaves 8X = 16. Then divide both sides by 8. This gives the result you seek, $\displaystyle \frac{16}{8}=X$, after you swap the order of the equality.
