That is, how would you simplify $\frac{4}{x-2}+\frac{6}{x+2}$ so that there is just one fractional term, i.e., $\frac{top}{\color{blue}bottom}$ ?
The $\color{blue}bottom$ in your final simplification is the least common denominator.
The answer is $(x-2)(x+2)$, but do you understand this?
