I keep getting because I multiply $2x$ by $x^2$

2. Re: understanding how this simplifies

What is $x^2\cdot\frac{1}{x^2}$?

3. Re: understanding how this simplifies

$x^2*1/x^2=x^2/x^2=1$ but what about when you multiply $x^2$ by $2x$?

4. Re: understanding how this simplifies

The factor $x^2$ only applies to the first term in the numerator.

5. Re: understanding how this simplifies
