What is $\displaystyle x^2\cdot\frac{1}{x^2}$?
$\displaystyle x^2*1/x^2=x^2/x^2=1$ but what about when you multiply $\displaystyle x^2$ by$\displaystyle 2x$?
The factor $\displaystyle x^2$ only applies to the first term in the numerator.
of course! Sometimes sleep is needed to see the obvious. thanks!
