Thread: help with algebra problem

((5 cm/50 km) + (x/50 km)) * 100 m = .00004 m/s


I'm trying to solve for x in cm/s.

I can only go so far before I get stuck. I need to learn all the steps to get to the answer so if you choose to reply, please be thorough in your post. Many thanks.

The first thing to do is get your units right: you have only metres and units of length on the left hand side but you have metres per second on the right hand side.

Something is wrong and I'm guessing it's on the left hand side. You can't continue unless you get a balance of the right units on both sides of the equation.
