Having difficulties with this problem
A rectangular field is eight times as long as it is wide. If the perimeter of the field is 990 feet, what are the dimensions of the field?

A) Write an equation you can use to answer the given question. Let http://www.imathas.com/cgi-bin/mimetex.cgi?{w} be the width of the field. Do not solve the equation yet.

The equation is ___________ (Make sure you use the correct variable.)

B) Use your equation to find the dimensions of the field.

Re: Having difficulties with this problem
Call the width $x$ therefore the length is $8x$ .

If the perimeter is $900$ and the formula for perimeter is $P = 2W+2L$ then your equation is $900 =2\times x+ 2\times 8x$

To solve this equation group some like terms and use inverse operations to solve for $x$
