1. Solving this algabraic question

Hi,

For the question attached, the multiple choice answers are $60, 70, 80, 90, 100$. I have tried:

$W_{1}/T_{1}=0.6, W_{2}/T_{2}=3/20$, and $[W_{1} + W_{2}]/[T_{1} + T_{2}]=0.5$. I can't get a numerical answer in $T_{1} + T_{2}$.

Thanks

Let $w$ be the number of wins in the first half of the season and $n$ be the number of games played in the first half. Then by the definintion of average we get

$\frac{w}{n}=.6 \iff w=.6n$

Now we know the won three more games in the 2nd half, so their total number of wins is $w+3$ and the total number of games played is $n+20$

This gives $\frac{w+3}{n+20}=.5$, but we know that $w=.6n$ so sub in and solve...
