on both sides of the equal sides it equals zero, care to take a look? please

So Im doing math homework and i come across this:

2(8-3q)=-6q+16

I tried to solve it, but it ended up just all equaling zero. Can someone tell me how to solve it?

Re: on both sides of the equal sides it equals zero, care to take a look? please

What you have is called an **identity**, which is true for all values of *q*.

If an equation can be ultimately simplified to 0 = 0, then it is an identity.

If the equation ultimately simplifies to 0 = 1, then it is inconsistent, i.e., it has no solution.
