# Area and Perimeter

Area and Perimeter
I need help with a work problem consiting of area and perimeter. I understand that A=1/2bh and that P = 2W x 2L. I am confused though when you have two different area's and you are to find the area and perimeter. Please advise, thanks dtofte

If you will not show us how the two rectangles are connected to form an L-shaped room, then the perimeter of the room is hard to guess.

The area, at any arrangement of the two rectangles, remains the same,
Area = (8.5)(11) +(6.5)(7.5) = 93.5 +48.75 = 142.25 sq.ft.

I tried making an L-shaped room with the equation editor as best as I could. I hope it helps. Thanks, for the help with getting the area on my question.

Okay. I think I got it.

So we get the perimeter of the L-shaped room.
We start counting from the upper lefthand corner, going clockwise.

Perimeter = 8.5 +(11 -6.5) +7.5 +6.5 +7.5 +8.5 + 11

Perimeter = 8.5 +4.5 +7.5 +6.5 +7.5 +8.5 + 11

Perimeter = 54 ft.
