# Math Help - Gradients?

1. ## Gradients?

I have to find the gradients from the information it gives me, it has an example but I have no idea how it gets from there to the answer, the example is:

Equation: R=V/I

Then it says: x axis: voltage
y axis: current

Then it gives the answer: Gradient = 1/R

But I don't understand how to get the answer from the information it gives me?

Any help would be aprecated

2. ## Re: Gradients?

I assume V = voltage, is R current?

3. ## Re: Gradients?

I is current because R is resistance but I don't understand how to get the gradient from it?

4. ## Re: Gradients?

Well $R = \frac{V}{I} \implies I = \frac{V}{R}$ which means I and V have a linear relationship. The gradient of this relationship is $\frac{1}{R}$

Thank you
