having trouble with this particulat problem
hi guys i have a problem which i have been hitting myself across the head as to why i cannot figure out if it is a positive or negative answer :

10-3b+3= -1 + (b+2) problem

step 1 : 13-3b= b+1
step 2 : 4b=-12 shouldnt the answer be -4?? my book says 4 what am i doing wrong in this problem

correction book says answer is 3 i still get a negative

1. The result of step 1 is correct.

2.

$13-3b= b+1$ ........ add 3b

$13=4b+1$ ........ subtract 1

$12=4b$ ........ divide both sides by 4

$\boxed{3 = b}$
