tricky fraction problem
the sum of the numerator and the denominator of a certain fraction is 104. the value of the fraction reduces to 9/17. What is the fraction?

$x+y = 104$

$\frac{x}{y} = \frac{9}{17}$

two equations, two unknowns ... solve the system of equations for x and y

thanks i got it ... x = 9/17 y.... then by substitution... hmmmm to equation 1 which is x + y =14 then the y = 68,,, and so x = 36 .. the fraction is 36/68. thanks a lot
