Bring everything to one side,

$y^2 - 3y = 0.$

Now factor, and then set each factor to zero.

Re: How can I solve this using factoring?
i.e $y^2 -3y=0$
$y(y-3)=0$
$y=0, or, (y-3)=0, y=3$
