Graph Reflections & Transformations:-Reflections and Translations
$\displaystyle f(x)+a$ shifts the graph up a units for positive values of a, and shifts down for negative values of a.
$\displaystyle f(x+1)$ shifts the graph LEFT for positive values of a, and shifts RIGHT for negative values of a.
$\displaystyle -f(x)$ reflects graph in x-axis
$\displaystyle f(-x)$ reflects graph in y-axis
Graph Stretches & Compression:-Stretches and Compressions
$\displaystyle kf(x)$ scales the graph vertically. i.e. stretches if k>1 and compresses if k<1
$\displaystyle f(kx)$ scales the graph horizontally. i.e compresses if k>1 and stretches if k<1
Composite functions example:-Composition of Functions
$\displaystyle f(x)=x^2 -1, g(x)=3x-4$
$\displaystyle f(g(x))$
$\displaystyle =f(3x-4)$
$\displaystyle =(3x-4)^2 +1$
$\displaystyle g(f(x))$
$\displaystyle =g(x^2 +1)$
$\displaystyle =3(x^2 +1)-4$
