I was having difficulty with the following standardized test question:

If the ratio of boys to girls in a class is 5 to 3 which of the following could not be the no. of students in the class

Answers: a)32 b)36 c)40 d)48 e)56

The answer is 36 but i cant figure out how that is the answer ?

the number of students in the class would have to be a multiple of 8 ... now, why?
